Each of the hotels listed in our pages is visited to ensure that they actually deliver what they say they will, but we would advise anyone, to ask to see the room before parting with their hard earned money, particularly when booking into any of the cheaper hotels. Another thing is expectation. If you are booking into the Ritz, you can expect all the trimmings. This is just not possible with the lower end of the market. Americans in particular find both our hotel rooms and our beds smaller than they have at home.
This is the second most expensive capitol in the whole world for hotels, only Tokyo is more expensive. Bear that in mind when looking for Bed and Breakfasts London. However if you are just looking at your hotel as a base from which to enjoy London, a cheaper form of accommodation is very likely to be the right answer.
Weather
If this is your first time to stay in a London then whether you come in Summer or Winter, be sure to bring along at least one jacket or coat that is rain-proof. In London we actually get our largest rainfall in July from thunder-storms. In Summer these storms tend to come and go in a matter of a few minutes, where as in Winter our rain tends to be lighter but more continuous.
Money
All bed and breakfasts in London take Visa and Master card and American Express, they will also take travelers cheques, so try not to arrive with large sums of cash. As with any major city there is theft and pickpockets, so try not to walk round with mare than you need. It is also a good idea to send yourself an e-mail before you leave with the phone numbers for reporting stolen cards, travelers cheques etc. As a genberal rule never change money at your hotel, if you can avoid it. Bed and breakfasts in London will seldom offer you the best rate. After all the hotel will need to change your money themselves and normally at their own bank. You will almost certainly get a better rate at one of our many money shops or by going to a bank yourself.
Crime
In general terms, you are no more at risk in a cheap hotel than in expensive accommodation, but there are precautions you should take when traveling round London. The most common form of transport is the Underground, which is fast, but don't attempt to travel on the Underground late at night when you are alone and that goes for men as well as women.
